Mmmm, I can smell them already.

With the holidays just around the corner, many families have a tradition of a special homemade bread for holiday morning breakfast, like cinnamon rolls or stollen. Nothing casts a shadow over the day more quickly than preparing the dough for homemade cinnamon rolls and then uncovering it after it’s had time to rise, only to find a hard, flat lump in the bottom.

Here’s a very quick way to test yeast, that’s been setting around for some time, to see if it’s still viable.

  1. Place ¼ cup of warm water in a small bowl.
  2. Add 1 tsp sugar or sweetener of choice.
  3. Add 1 packet (tsp) of yeast and stir in.
  4. Let set for 10-15 minutes.

If it froths the yeast is still usable. If not, add it to your shopping list.

I know I’ve always enjoyed it when I’ve taken the time to make homemade cinnamon rolls as a special Christmas morning treat.

I was going to add a video on how to make them from YouTube, but it looks like I’m going to have to make one myself, because they use all kinds of unhealthy stuff in theirs. Not one made with whole wheat flour or Sucanat. I’ll have to video myself the next time I make them, so you can enjoy them yourself.
