Gift Ideas For Your Health Nut Friends
The holidays are rapidly approaching. If you’ve got health nuts on your list for the holidays, buying gifts for them may be a mystery. I know when people hear our dietary restrictions (all voluntary) they secretly vow never to invite us over for a meal. However, with just a little bit of planning you can give a gift, even an edible gift, to a friend that is choosing to eat consciously.
First off there are some ingredients that we love that are pretty expensive (of course all of these should be purchased organic): goji berries; raw chocolate; nuts; nut spreads; dried fruit (check on whether they’ll eat white sugar as some are coated in white sugar); honey (especially sourwood or specialty flavored honeys), to name a few.
You can also look into other organic products, such as socks (I’ve heard bamboo socks are wonderful); sheets, pillowcases, and towels made from bamboo are luxuriously soft; or a robe out of organic cotton.
There are also amazing bamboo items available for the cook on the list. There are beautiful cutting boards; spatulas, spoons and other mixing implements; salad or mixing bowls; serving trays and bowls; I have a bamboo compost container, so you don’t even know there’s compost scraps on the counter.
If they grow some of their own food you could pick out some interesting looking organic, open pollinated, or heirloom seeds for them to try next spring. Might I suggest red long-pod beans, ground cherries, purple carrots, or lemon cucumbers.
If that’s not enough you can always get them a gift certificate to either the local natural food store, or an online store (especially one that has wonderful raw ingredients available).
We may seem a bit strange to those eating the SAD diet (standard American diet), but we like a good treat as much as anyone. Our treats are just healthier and may not seem much like a treat to you, LOL!
